THE POLITICAL SPORT OF TAXATION
Former United States Senator Russell B. Long (D-Louisiana) summed up the political sport of taxation this way: “Don’t tax you, don’t tax me, tax that fellow behind the tree.” Truth be told, the current IRS scandal whereby it violated the First Amendment and the Hatch Act by engaging in biased, viewpoint-based discrimination against Tea Party and Patriot non-profits, although reprehensible, is an old political story. By its very nature, progressive tax policy aims at discriminating against people based on wealth, affiliation, and status. To be sure, there is a difference between public adoption of discriminatory tax laws and non-public, political witch hunts performed by the IRS, but in the end the lesson to be learned is that events of this sort are not isolated but are routine in a state that is so large and taxes so much that it is perennially prone to abuse of power by political incumbents against political challengers....[full story]

AMERICA HEADING DOWN THE SAME ROAD AS THE ROMAN EMPIRE
THE WAY OF THE FORMER ROMAN EMPIRE IS THE WAY OF THE UNITED STATES The United States could correctly be likened to a huge glacier that has – through the years of its being – run a broad and seemingly non interruptible course through the world panorama, a course that emphasized its power and magnificence and illumined a connected series of divinely enhanced events, actions and developments throughout its diachronic existence. Unfortunately there has also been concomitantly a broad and morality dissipating U.S. national progression that has extraordinarily eroded its base and shorn from it the last steadying vestiges of the anchoring social and spiritual appendages that brought it into being and helped greatly to steady the journey and to stabilize the course of the whole of the mass....[full story]

From Capital Punishment to Guns, Old Fears Weigh Like a Nightmare on Today's Debate
The current debate about gun control, the effectiveness of the war on drugs, much, in fact, of the big debates that take place throughout American culture have their roots in pre-Civil War debates about execution. So says author Stephen John Hartnett, who's the author of the book Executing Democracy: Capital Punishment and the Making of America. Here's a couple of quotes from Executing Democracy....[full story]

THERE IS A CONSPIRACY
The title of today’s column, “There Is A Conspiracy,” is a direct quote from Ezekiel 22:25. In this passage, God instructed Ezekiel to blow the whistle on the conspiracy of Israel’s prophets to deny people truth, to devour people’s souls, to defraud people’s substance, and to destroy people’s lives. I dare say this conspiracy is still alive and well today. Many pastors and religious leaders in 2013 America are as guilty of Ezekiel’s charges as were Israel’s ancient prophets....[full story]

Evidence suggests that up to 90 percent of landmark cancer research may be false
The vast majority of the published scientific literature on cancer and cancer research is inherently flawed and non-reproducible, reveals a new review published online in the journal Nature. Researchers C. Glenn Begley and Lee Ellis found that a mere 11 percent of 53 papers on cancer published in reputable, peer-reviewed journals was solid, while the other 89 percent could not be reproduced, implying that it may be false or at the very least misleading....[full story]

PSA screening exposed as complete medical hoax: 99.9 percent of the time it provides no benefit to men
The medical-industrial complex is backtracking heavily these days from recommending that men undergo prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests for prostate cancer, as continually emerging evidence reveals the test to be dangerous, inaccurate, and essentially useless for most men. In fact, the American Urological Association (AUA) at its recent annual meeting admitted that, based on the available data, PSA tests provide no benefit to men 99.9 percent of the time, which by any reasonable standards renders the test a complete hoax....[full story]
